Thank you to all the individuals, communities and organisations that got involved. We have now started the data analysis with Nuffield College, the University of Oxford, and will be sharing the full report and analysis later this Autumn. To stay informed sign up to our mailing list:

What is the National Conversation

The National Conversation is a UK-wide listening initiative, inviting people right across the country to share what they value about community life and the kind of communities they want to build together.

Something has shifted in how people experience community life. Trust feels more fragile. Connections that once held neighbourhoods together – the school gates, the high street, the local pub, the place of worship – are harder to find in many places. And too many people feel that nobody is asking what they think about it.

We’re faced with generational questions on how we live well together and our vision for the kind of country and kind of communities we are trying to build, which is why the National Conversation gives people across the UK the chance to share their lived experiences and thoughts on what community life feels like and how we can “live well together” in the future.

Children and young people in the National Conversation

Take part in The National Conversation: Next Generation

Children and young people across the UK (under 16s) are invited to join the National Conversation to make sure we hear the views of the next generation on what brings people together, what divides us, where they feel they belong, and what could make their communities stronger.

Schools, colleges, youth groups and community organisations can participate by hosting conversations using our free toolkit and resources.

Join the conversation this Autumn. Get involved in National Conversation: Next Generation Week, 5–9 October.

Host your own Group Conversation session

We’re inviting everyone to have their say on the country they want to see by taking the survey or hosting their own Group Conversation. This will ensure we hear from real people and communities across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

How you can be involved

Download all the resources you need to host a group conversation!

Group Conversations provide a safe space for people to share their experiences, to ‘Take the Survey’, and to submit anonymised feedback that will collect the insights into how we can strengthen our communities.
